I'm currently accepting guitar students for in-person lessons in the Chicago area or virtually through Skype. Through guidance and experimentation, I hope to help you shape and discover your own distinct style and sound through instruction in lead guitar, improvisation, phrasing, accompaniment and song production.
Although I am primarily a blues-inspired player, I have spent the last ten years playing in a multitude of bands ranging from country and folk to punk, noise and ambient. I'm an accomplished slide guitar player and accompanist, driven by a performance philosophy that the sound I create should meld with and enhance the texture of a song rather than overpower it. My playing style and work ethic has allowed me to work with many artists as a studio and live guitarist over the years.
My approach to teaching guitar craft is non-traditional because I don't believe there is one "correct" way to play as the appeal of sound is relative to every player and listener. I choose to focus primarily on self-discovery through exploration concentrated and guided by what each individual student desires to learn. This doesn't mean theory, scales and proper technique are absent from lessons. I intend to teach students fundamentals and practical theory as a building block in development of their own personal style rather than forcing a traditional and homogenous sound through repetition of classical tropes.
I offer competitive rates for one hour weekly lessons and am excited to speak with you more about furthering your journey in music. To set up a time to chat, contact me at dboyleisd@gmail.com.
